TECHNICAL DATA SHEET. Vinyl Silk Emulsion

Description . Vinyl Silk Emulsion is a tough flexible product which dries to an attractive silk lustre. The product is based on a Vinyl copolymer emulsion which confers very good durability and wash resistance properties. Vinyl Silk Emulsion is intended for interior use only. It is water based, easy to apply, quick drying and has low odour in use so large areas can be redecorated with minimal disturbance.

Properties . Vinyl Silk Emulsion is a water thinnable paint formulated on a high performance Vinyl copolymer emulsion.

Preparation . Great care should be paid to correct surface preparation as this is the single most important step in the painting sequence. Surfaces to be painted should be sound, clean, dry and completely free of grease and other contamination. Remove all loose and flaking material (Wear a suitable face mask when dry sanding). Powdery surfaces should be treated with a coat of a proprietary alkali resisting primer (thinned with approximately 10% white spirit). Cover nail and screw heads with an oil based primer before using Vinyl Silk emulsion. Very absorbent surfaces should first be “mist” coated with a well thinned coat of Vinyl Silk Emulsion. After allowing to dry, two full coats of Vinyl Silk Emulsion should be applied.

Coverage . Coverage rates will depend upon the surface to be painted but 12-15 square metres per litre would be expected.

Application . Vinyl Silk Emulsion can be applied by brush, roller or airless spray. The product would not normally require to be thinned before use other than when using as a “mist” coat. For roller application, a short pile sheepskin roller is recommended. For airless spraying, thinning should be avoided if possible (although this will always be dependent upon the equipment and application conditions).

Spray tip aperture 13-17 thou (0.33mm – 0.43mm ) Spray tip angle 50 ° - 70 ° Minimum working pressure 2000 psi .

Do not apply in very cold or damp conditions .

Drying Time . 1 – 3 hours depending upon conditions. Low temperatures will extend drying times. Normally recoatable after 4 hours.

Colour Availability. Brilliant White and Magnolia (BS 08B15). Also available in black and a range of bases for tinting.

Clean Up . Remove as much paint as possible from equipment before washing. Brushes, rollers and spray equipment should be cleaned out immediately after use in warm soapy water.

Safety Precautions . Ensure good ventilation during application and drying. Wear suitable face mask when spraying. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. In case of accidental contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of clean water and seek medical advice if irritation persists. After skin contact, rinse with soap and water or a proprietary skin cleanser. For further information, see Health and Safety data sheet.

Storage . Protect from frost. Store upright in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight. Replace lid firmly after use.

Disposal . Do not empty paint in to drains or watercourses. Some Local Authorities have special facilities for disposal of waste paint.

VOC Level . Low VOC (0.30-7.99%) VOC`s (Volatile Organic Compounds) contribute to atmospheric pollution.

Special Instructions. Stir well before use. If thinning is necessary, use Water. If more than 1 can is to be used in an area, premix cans before use.
