Description . Liquid Gloss is suitable for interior and exterior use. Based on an alkyd resin, Liquid Gloss gives excellent opacity and dries to a hard high gloss finish with long term durability. The product can be used over suitably primed and prepared masonry, plaster, wood and metal. For best results an undercoat should be used prior to application of Liquid Gloss.
Properties . Liquid Gloss is based on a long oil alkyd resin system and has a flash point above 35 ° C. Whilst possessing satisfactory heat resistance, dried films of Liquid Gloss should not be subjected to high temperatures ( above 80 ° C) for long periods as discolouration could occur – particularly on whites or pale tints.
Preparation . Great care should be paid to correct surface preparation as this is the single most important step in the painting sequence. Prior to painting, ensure that all traces of grease, dust, oils, grit etc are completely removed. All loose and flaking material should be removed by scraping and wire brushing. Very porous plaster areas should be sealed with a well thinned coat of alkali resisting primer or stabilising primer and allowed to dry thoroughly before proceeding. Old oil based surfaces should be sanded to provide a key for subsequent painting. Avoid inhalation of dust, wear a suitable face mask if dry sanding. Special precautions should be taken with preparation of pre 1960`s paint surfaces as they may contain harmful lead. When surfaces have been adequately prepared, apply one coat of undercoat and allow to dry for at least 16 hours. One coat of Liquid Gloss should then be applied unthinned. (Additional protection and enhanced appearance will of course be achieved by application of a second coat of Liquid Gloss). Application in damp or very cold conditions should be avoided.
Coverage. Up to 17 square metres per litre would be expected dependent upon application technique used.
Application . Liquid Gloss can be applied by all the usual accepted techniques – brush, roller and airless spray. In all cases, thinning is not normally required. For brush application, a good quality brush is recommended to achieve best results. For roller application, a short pile roller – sheepskin or mohair would be recommended for best results. For airless spray :
Spray tip diameter 11 – 13 thou (0.28 – 0.33mm ) Spray tip angle 50 ° - 70 ° Minimum working pressure 2000ps i
Do not apply in very cold or damp conditions .
Drying Time . Touch dry in 4-6 hours. Recoatable after 16-24 hours.
Colour Availability. Brilliant White, Black and a range of tint bases.
Clean Up . Remove as much paint as possible from equipment before washing. Brushes, rollers and spray equipment should be cleaned immediately after use with either White spirit or a proprietary brush cleaner.
Safety Precautions . Ensure sufficient ventilation of the area to be painted. Whilst this product is not considered to be highly flammable, sensible precautions should be taken to avoid sources of ignition. No smoking. When spraying or applying in enclosed areas on a large scale, suitable breathing apparatus must be worn. Observe good hygiene and avoid contact with skin and eyes. In case of accidental contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of clean water and seek medical advice. In common with most oil based paints, this product contains Methyl Ethyl Ketoxime and Cobalt Carboxylate. These materials may produce an allergic reaction. For further information, see Health and Safety Data sheet.
Storag e Protect from frost. Store upright in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight. Replace lid firmly after use.
Disposal . Do not empty paint in to drains and watercourses. Some Local Authorities have special facilities for disposal of waste paint.
VOC Leve l High VOC (25-50%) VOC`s (Volatile Organic Compounds) contribute towards atmospheric pollution.
