Description . A high performance semi gloss product with good abrasion resistance, oil resistance and water resistance. Suitable for medium traffic areas in factories, garages, car showrooms and warehouses.
Propertie s Floor paint is an oil based product based on a urethane alkyd resin with a flash point greater than 35 ° C.
Preparation . Great attention should be paid to preparation, as this is the single most important step in the painting sequence. Prior to painting, ensure that all traces of grease, dust, oil, grit etc are completely removed. Surfaces must be firm, sound, clean and dry. All loose and flaking material should be removed by scraping and wire brushing. The surface should then be washed down using water/detergent. White spirit may be required to disperse any residual grease marks. Surface imperfections should be filled using a suitable proprietary filler. New concrete floors should be allowed to dry thoroughly – usually for several months before painting. Very smooth concrete may need to be acid etched before painting in order to promote adhesion. Old oil based paint surfaces should be sanded to provide a key for subsequent painting. Avoid inhalation of dust, wear a suitable face mask if dry sanding. Special precautions should be taken with preparation of pre 1960`s paint surfaces as they may contain harmful lead. Do not apply in damp or very cold conditions.
Coverage . Coverage between 10sq.m and 14sq.m per litre dependent upon surface condition.
Application . Stir well before use. If more than one can is required to complete the job, it is advisable to premix prior to commencement. Do not apply in very cold or damp conditions. When applying this product to large areas or in a confined space, wear a suitable cartridge respirator or airfed respirator.
Floor paint can be applied by brush or roller.
When using on previously untreated and porous surfaces, a coat of Stabilising Primer or a thinned coat of Floor Paint (with around 10% white spirit) should first be applied to remove absorbency. Once dry, a further two coats of undiluted floor paint should then be applied.
Drying Time . The product would normally be touch dry in 3-4 hours depending on ambient conditions. Allow 16 hours between coats.
Colour Availability. Tile Red, Empire Green and Slate Grey.
Clean up . Remove as much paint as possible from equipment before washing. Brushes and rollers should be cleaned immediately after use with either White Spirit or a proprietary brush cleaner.
Safety Precautions . Ensure sufficient ventilation of the area to be painted. Whilst this product is not considered to be highly flammable, sensible precautions should be taken to avoid sources of ignition. No smoking. When applying in enclosed areas on a large scale, suitable breathing apparatus must be worn. Observe good hygiene and avoid contact with skin and eyes. In case of accidental contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of clean water and seek medical advice. In common with most oil based paints, this product contains Cobalt Carboxylate and Methyl Ethyl Ketoxime. These materials may produce an allergic reaction. For further information see Health and Safety Data sheet.
Storage. Protect from frost. Store upright in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight. Replace lid firmly after use.
Disposal . Do not empty paint in to drains and watercourses. Some Local Authorities have special facilities for disposal of waste paint.
