Description . Acrylic Primer/Undercoat is a water based dual purpose material which can be used either in exterior or interior situations. The product can be considered as either a primer or an undercoat particularly prior to application of traditional oil based paint systems. It has excellent opacity and can be used over a wide variety of substrates (not metals).
Properties . Acrylic Primer/Undercoat is a water thinnable paint based on a high performance acrylic resin emulsion.
Preparation . Great attention should be paid to correct surface preparation as this is the single most important step in the painting sequence. Surfaces to be painted should be sound, clean, dry and completely free of grease or other contamination. Remove all loose and flaking material (Wear a suitable face mask when dry sanding.) Old oil based surfaces should be sanded to provide a key for subsequent painting. Special precautions should be taken with preparation of pre 1960`s paint surfaces as they may contain harmful lead. (Note, nail and screw heads should be sealed with an oil based primer prior to application of Acrylic Primer/Undercoat.) Powdery surfaces should be treated with a thinned coat (around 10-20% water added) of Acrylic Primer/Undercoat. When the surface has been adequately prepared, apply two full coats of Acrylic Primer/Undercoat. Allow to dry thoroughly prior to application of final finish. Do not apply in very cold or damp conditions.
Coverage . Depending on the nature and condition of the surface, a coverage of 12-14 square metres per litre would be expected.
Application . Acrylic Primer/Undercoat can be applied by brush, roller and airless spray. Thinning is generally not recommended for brush application but for roller and airless spray application, up to 10% of water could be added if felt necessary. For roller application, a short pile roller is recommended. For Airless spray:
Spray tip aperture 11-13 thou (0.28 – 0.33mm ) Spray tip angle 50 ° - 60 ° Minimum working pressure 2000ps i
Do not apply in very cold or damp conditions .
Drying Time . Touch dry in 30 minutes - 2 hours. Can be recoated after 4 hours under normal conditions.
Colour Availability. Brilliant White and a range of tint bases.
Clean Up . Remove as much paint as possible from equipment before washing. Brushes, rollers and spray equipment should be cleaned out immediately after use in warm soapy water.
Safety Precautions . Ensure good ventilation during application and drying. Wear suitable face mask when spraying. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. In case of accidental contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of clean water and seek medical advice if irritation persists. After skin contact, rinse with soap and water or a proprietary skin cleanser. For further information, see Health and Safety data sheet.
Storag e Protect from frost. Store upright in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight. Replace lid firmly after use.
Disposal . Do not empty paint in to drains or watercourses. Some Local Authorities have special facilities for disposal of waste paint.
VOC Level . Low VOC (0.30-7.99%) VOC`s (Volatile Organic Compounds) contribute to atmospheric pollution.
Special Instructions. Stir well before use. If thinning is necessary, use Water.
