TECHNICAL DATA SHEET. Regional Timbercare

Description . A water based timber protection product designed for exterior use on rough sawn timber. It is completely harmless to pets and plants when dry. The product contains biocides/algaecides to help prevent growth of unsightly algae. Unlike creosote products, there is no pungent odour in application or service.

Properties . Regional Timbercare uses only the highest lightfastness pigments to protect the wood from the harmful bleaching effects of UV in strong sunlight. The wax preparations used in the Timbercare formulation will help to minimise water penetration into timber and hence considerably delay deterioration of the wood.

Preparation. As with all paint products, the key to success lies in adequate surface preparation. External timber must be free from fungal or algal growth before application of Timbercare. Surfaces contaminated with fungal or algal growth should be treated with a proprietary Fungicidal solution (following carefully the instrucions for use). The surface should also be scraped or wire brushed as appropriate. Fungal staining should be removed as far as possible by using a solution of 3 parts water to 1 part domestic bleach. Leave for 24 hours before washing down and scrubbing to remove any residual bleach. Allow to dry. A further coat of a proprietary Fungicidal solution should finally be applied and allowed to dry. It should be noted that it is difficult to successfully cover a dark shade of timber treatment with a very much lighter shade. Several coats would be necessary and even then the finish may not be as desired. If it is necessary to paint a lighter colour over a darker colour, a precoat of obliterating primer is recommended.

Coverage . 6 – 12 square metres per litre dependent upon surface to be treated. (Porosity, roughness and condition of timber)

Application . Brush, roller, dipping. Apply unthinned. Timber to be dipped should be totally immersed for 5 – 10 minutes before removing and using a brush to remove excess material. Application by brush is the most common method. Load the brush generously and work in to the grain of the timber for best results. Two coats will generally give the best finish. Application by roller is again possible (a medium to long pile roller being required). Do not apply in rain or when there is an immediate threat of rain. Do not apply in very cold conditions. (less than 5 ° C)

Drying Time. Regional Timbercare will normally be touch dry within 1 – 2 hours. Patches of very rough timber are likely to take longer. Recoating is normally possible within 2 – 4 hours in normal summer conditions.

Colour Availability. Available in 4 colours. 5 litre pack size only.

Clean Up . Remove as much product as possible from equipment before washing. Brushes and rollers should be cleaned immediately after use in warm soapy water. Any areas of stone or other material which have been splashed with Timbercare should be washed off with plenty of water before the product dries .
