TECHNICAL DATA SHEET . Oil based Squash Court Undercoat.

Description . OBSC Undercoat is specially formulated for use under Regional Oil based Squash Court paint. It has excellent adhesion to a variety of substrates, full opacity and defect filling properties. OBSC Undercoat flows out to a smooth finish and will provide a perfect surface for subsequent painting.

Properties . OBSC Undercoat is based on a highly filled alkyd resin system having a flash point greater than 35 ° C.

Preparation . Great care should be paid to correct surface preparation as this is the single most important step in the painting sequence. Prior to painting, ensure that all traces of grease, dust, oils and grit etc are completely removed. All loose and flaking material should be removed by scraping and wire brushing. Very porous plaster areas should first be sealed with a well thinned coat of alkali resisting primer or stabilising primer and allowed to dry thoroughly before proceeding. Old oil based surfaces should be sanded to provide a key for subsequent painting. Avoid inhalation of dust, wear a suitable face mask if dry sanding. Special precautions should be taken with preparation of pre 1960`s paint surfaces as they may contain harmful lead. When surfaces have been adequately prepared and primed, apply one coat of OBSC undercoat. Allow to dry completely (at least 16 hours). If necessary, lightly sand the surface with wet and dry prior to final gloss painting. Do not apply in cold or damp conditions.

Coverage. Depending upon surface, 14- 17 square metres per litre.

Application . OBSC Undercoat can be applied by all the usual accepted techniques – brush, roller and most commonly by airless spray. In all cases, thinning should be avoided wherever possible. For brush application, a good quality brush is recommended. Load brush generously and apply evenly. Do not brush out excessively. For roller application, a short pile sheepskin or mohair roller is recommended for best results.

For airless spray :Spray tip diameter 11 – 13 thou (0.28 – 0.33mm ) Spray tip angle 50 ° - 70 ° Minimum working pressure 2000ps i

Do not apply in cold or damp conditions .

Drying Time . Touch dry in 4 – 6 hours. Recoatable after 16 – 24 hours.

Colour Availability. White.

Clean Up . Remove as much paint as possible from equipment before washing. Brushes, rollers and spray equipment should be cleaned immediately after use with either White spirit or a proprietary brush cleaner.

Safety Precautions . Ensure sufficient ventilation of the area to be painted. Whilst this product is not considered to be highly flammable, sensible precautions should be taken to avoid sources of ignition. No smoking. When spraying or applying in enclosed areas on a large scale, suitable breathing apparatus must be worn. Observe good hygiene and avoid contact with skin and eyes. In case of accidental contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of clean water and seek medical advice. In common with most oil based paints, this product contains cobalt carboxylate and methyl ethyl ketoxime. These materials may produce an allergic reaction. For further information, see Health and Safety Data sheet.

Storage . Protect from frost, store upright in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight. Replace lid firmly after use.

Disposal . Do not empty paint in to drains and watercourses. Some Local Authorities have special facilities for disposal of waste paint.

VOC Level . High VOC (25-50%) VOC`s (Volatile Organic Compounds) contribute to atmospheric pollution.

Special Instructions. Stir well before use. If thinning is necessary, use White spirit.
